LHASA TO EVEREST BASE CAMP TOUR IN TIBET

This is the classic touring itinerary in Tibet from Lhasa to the north base camp of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Beginning with the dramatic flight from Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu, we begin our high altitude adventure on the Tibetan Plateau at 11,450 feet (3,490 meters) in the famous city of Lhasa. As one of the highest cities in the world, Lhasa has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century and is home to many of the most culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. Lhasa literally means “place of the gods”.

After sightseeing and acclimatization in and around Lhasa, we board our private transportation and travel southwest across the Tibetan Plateau, amongst its incredible natural beauty to the sacred turquoise lake of Yamdrok Tso. Further ahead we will travel over no less than five high mountain passes en route to the Rongbuk Valley and monastery, the gateway to the north base camp of Mount Everest.

This is an active cultural tour at high altitudes. Although it is not a physically active trip you will want to be in good fitness to be able to enjoy our ambitious itinerary. Our trip will take advantage of the recently opened road border crossing at Kerung allowing us to offer a complete overland journey to include the drive back to Kathmandu from the famous Rongbuk Valley.
