Everest Base Camp is located on the Khumbu Glacier at 17,598 feet / 5364 meters at end of a long valley in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Starting from the airstrip village of Lukla, the classic route to Everest Base Camp is an 80-mile (130km) round trip hike, and is broken up into manageable stages in order to provide adequate acclimatization.

The average time people take to hike from Lukla to Everest Base Camp is 12 days. One World Trekking recommends this 12-day itinerary, which includes 2 acclimatization days (Namche Bazaar and Dingboche Village). When is the best time of year to hike to EBC?
There are several decent weather windows throughout the year to make the journey to Everest Base Camp. The main trekking seasons in Nepal are split into two distinct periods: pre-monsoon and post-monsoon.
From March to late May, it is springtime in Nepal. With all the festivals and the Everest climbing season, this can be the busiest time of year. That being said, temperatures are ideal for hiking, the rhododendrons and in a stunning bloom, villagers are planting their fields, colorful festivals are underway, and Everest Base Camp is alive with expeditions hoping to reach the Top of the World.
From mid-June through to early September, you won’t want to be trekking in Nepal. This is Nepal’s rainy monsoon season. It doesn’t rain 24/7 during this time, but it downpours with enough frequency and intensity that any trip would swiftly brought to a halt (not to mention the mud, landslides and leeches that accompany the rains).
Once the monsoon rains ease, the autumn trekking season begins in earnest. October through mid-November offers beautiful trekking conditions, with fresh air, crystal-clear views and cooler but still comfortable temperatures.
From December to February, it does get colder, but this is a typically dry time and quiet with very few groups on the trails. Temperatures at night will drop below freezing, but you’ll be staying in comfortable lodges. ace weather delays. For those with the warmer clothing to brave the colder temperatures, this is an amazing time to trek to EBC.
