Our experience with One World was outstanding. Andy patiently answered all of our questions before we headed out to Nepal and made sure we were comfortable with the arrangements in Kathmandu, hotels, tea houses, guides, etc. Despite the problems we had with our flights, we were met at the airport when we walked out of customs/immigration and were taken directly to our hotel; the Yak and Yeti is an outstanding hotel in downtown Kathmandu located within walking distance to all the main tourist sites, restaurants and shopping. Great place to stay.
The first sign we were being well taken care of is when our contact in Kathmandu called us and said we had to take the 6:00am flight to Lukla (that’s a very early morning) because, for the last few days, only the first 2 or three flights were making it to Lukla. They were right. Our flight and 2 others got in that morning … that’s it.
The trek itself was fantastic. Scenery is unbelievable, people are wonderful and our guide (Dik) was amazing. What makes a guide amazing? If there was a room with a private bathroom, we got it, if there was a room with a queen bed, we got it, if there was a room with a shower, we got it. Dik would ask us what time we wanted to eat and then stood in the kitchen to make sure our food came out exactly when we wanted to eat, regardless of how many people were ahead of us waiting for their food. The other thing that struck me is that Dik was friends with all the tea house owners, the shop and restaurant owners along the way. He always made sure we got the best price for whatever we bought and made sure we were well taken care of. He was also very patient as we climbed some of the big hills along the way; Dik is in his 60’s and could have run up all the hills with both our packs on his back. We weren’t nearly so fit, but Dik made sure we stopped when we needed and reminded us to keep hydrated. All around great guy.
After taking the trip with One World, I can say that it is definitely worth the money to work with Andy and his team in Nepal. A first class trip and no worries along the way!
