Recap of One World Trekking’s Fall 2022 Season in Nepal, Bhutan and India

Wow! It’s such a great feeling to have completed the first full fall trekking season since 2019! Needless to say, the past 3 years have been a challenge for us, our overseas agents and the travel industry as a whole. Covid-19 vaccines, boosters and commonsense safety measures have gotten us back on the right path and moving forward.

NEPAL: This fall we had 18 groups in Nepal stretching from early September to late November. The ever-lingering monsoon weather across Nepal required some adjusting, rearranging and patience for our earlier groups, as almost daily rain (snow at higher elevations) continued through the first week of October. The monsoon weather broke for good around October 11 and it has been literally all sunshine since. Every person in 14 groups (almost 70 trekkers) made it to Everest Base Camp via our standard EBC Lodge Trek, EBC Luxury Lodge Trek and Three Passes of Mount Everest Lodge Trek. Two groups made it through the Annapurna Sanctuary to the south base camp of Annapurna and two groups crossed the Thorong La Pass to complete the Annapurna Circuit.

BHUTAN: Despite Bhutan’s late September reopening, we had one lucky group visit the Dragon Kingdom for a week-long tour of the Paro, Thimphu and Bumthang valleys. We expect groups in Bhutan to skyrocket in 2023 after a 2.5 year closure due to the pandemic and the recent opening of the Trans Bhutan Trail after a 60 year closure.

INDIA: India remains one of our most diverse hiking destinations and in 2022 we had several groups travel to the northern areas outside of Leh and into the Markha Valley. With several closures and reopenings due to the Covid-19 virus, India suffered from some negative press and confusion as to the entry requirements for tourists. The country is now back open with clear and easy entry and visa requirements, so we are moving forward with a 2023 program of great hiking adventures.

TIBET: For all intents and purposes, Tibet was closed to tourism in 2022. While we are keeping two of our best Tibet adventures on the website, The Kangshung Face of Everest Trek and the Lhasa Explorer Trip, we will need to monitor and make updates as the travel situation to Tibet unfolds.

We want to thank all of you for helping us make 2022 and true comeback year. By choosing to travel with One World Trekking, you allow us to get our guides, cooks, porters, drivers, and all other overseas support staff back to work, supporting their families and doing what they love. What we all love…traveling and experiencing the world on foot.

Happy Holidays from the One World Trekking Team!
