  • Accommodation in family-run lodges
  • Explore Khumbu Icefall & Kala Pattar
  • Visit Tengboche Monastery
  • Watch the start of the Everest Marathon
  • Celebrate the 1st ascent of Mt. Everest

The Everest region is understandably one of the world’s most popular and spectacular hiking destinations. Our Everest Base Camp Anniversary Lodge Trek begins with a spectacular flight from Kathmandu to the 9,000-foot airstrip at the mountain village of Lukla. We then follow the traditional expedition route to the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu, the village of Namche Bazaar and onwards, alongside the raging Imja Khola River to the high valley below Mount Everest. En route to the world’s highest peak, we will visit many picturesque Sherpa villages. Tengboche, the home of Nepal’s most famous monastery, is situated beneath the impressive backdrop of Everest and Ama Dablam.

Our journey to Everest Base Camp takes us close up beneath the spectacular “Khumbu Icefall” which leads up to the South Col and was the route taken on the first ascent of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953. Our special departure includes one night of full-service tented camping at Everest Base Camp with the Everest Marathon Group and the option of hiking to the top of the viewpoint peak of Kala Pattar (18,188 feet), which will afford our hard effort with extraordinary views down over Base Camp and up to the peaks of Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori and, of course, Mount Everest.

This relatively easy-paced, fully-supported lodge trek in the Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) allows us to enjoy an excellent introduction to trekking in Nepal and provide a unique insight into the ‘Land of the Sherpa’ and home to the highest point on the planet – Mount Everest. This is a 30+ year, time-tested trip itinerary with a proven acclimatization schedule.
