INTO THE VALLEY OF THE MOUNTAIN GODS

  • Classic Karakoram trekking journey
  • Hiking the famous Baltoro Glacier
  • Day hike to K2 Base Camp
  • Spectacular Camp Concordia
  • One of the world’s epic adventures

Trekking into the heart of the mighty Karakoram Range to Concordia Camp involves a long and demanding walk through a remote and rugged land. Our trek starts out from Askole, a village which is only accessible by way of a rough and tumble drive on a highly weather dependent road along the Braldu Gorge. Any difficulty which has to be overcome is more than compensated for, however, by the stunningly dramatic landscape. At Concordia, our ultimate destination, there is an assembly of giant peaks, including K2 (8611m.) the second highest and arguably the most impressive peak on earth. Three other 8,000 meter peaks lie at the head of the Baltoro Glacier – Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. In no other part of the world can you find such a concentration of 8000 and near 8000 meter peaks. On the hike in to Concordia there are great mountains such as Masherbrum (K1), alongside the famous and spectacular rock architecture of the Trango, Cathedral and Lobsang groups. There is also the sheer enormity of the Baltoro Glacier, over which we have to hike across for the last five days of the approach. In addition, there is the chance to observe first hand the remarkable way of life of the Balti people, who maintain a cheerful outlook in spite of, or perhaps because of, their having very few of what the Western world would consider to be essentials. This is an absolutely classic journey, which takes in some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in the world.

2018 marked our return to trekking in northern Pakistan. From 1988 to 2006 we have successfully led trekking groups to every corner of the Karakoram. For obvious reasons these treks have been less popular over the years but, with a top notch local agent and the tremendous success of previous groups, we are committed to rediscovering this gem among trekking destinations.

The K2 & Baltoro Glacier Trek in the Karakoram Range of northern Pakistan is part of our Worldwide Adventure Tours Series.
