HIKING THE SINGALILA RIDGE TO THE WORLD’S 3RD HIGHEST PEAK
- Remote wilderness & holy lakes
- Unsurpassed views of Kangchenjunga
- Picturesque campsites & high passes
- Sightseeing in the famed hill station of Darjeeling
As seen from the world famous hill-station of Darjeeling, the five-summited massif of Mount Kangchenjunga (8,586m) dominates the horizon to the north. Crossing into the former independent kingdom of Sikkim, our newest India trekking vacation takes us on a sensational trek to the world’s third highest peak, along the crest of the Singalila Ridge – the prominent spur of high ground that forms the border between India and Nepal. Here, we find views that extend to the distant peaks of Everest and Makalu.
Our trekking route falls entirely within Sikkim and through a mountain wilderness via high passes and a succession of lovely camping places to the valley of the Prek Chu. It’s from this point, above the sacred Samity Lake, that we make our ascent to the viewpoint for Kangchenjunga’s huge south-east face. Providing a spectacular travel experience, as well as first-class trekking among fabulous mountain scenery, this is a simply fantastic hiking vacation in the Indian Himalaya.
The Sikkim and Kangchenjunga Trek (Camping Trip) is part of our Himalayan Classic Trek Series. Our Classic Treks are led by an experienced, English-speaking Sherpa Guide and full support crew. We are able to arrange this trek starting on any day of the week during the months of late May to mid-June and October through November for groups of 2 to 10 people.
