A SECRET ENTRANCE INTO THE GREAT ANNAPURNA HIMALAYA
- The remote Namun La Pass at 15,910 feet
- The scenic Rambrong Ridge Camp
- Visit to the sacred Dudh Pokhari lakes
- A guided and fully-supported camping trek
- A little-traveled route through the Annapurna Range
Many years ago, Sir Chris Bonington and Barney Rosedale undertook a reconnaissance of the route to the Namun La (15,910ft / 4,850m), a remote high pass along an old trade route between Pokhara and Manang. This route proved to be a unique and little-traveled way to connect onto the main Annapurna Circuit Trail. We are now offering our groups the opportunity to walk in these famous footsteps across a spectacular region of Nepal’s Annapurna Himalayas.
Only recently introduced to foreigners, the trail to Dudh Pokhari (Milk Lake) and the Namun La Pass is situated on the border of the Lamgung, Manang and Kaski districts of Nepal and provides a little-known and little-traveled access onto the great Annapurna Circuit. Legend has it that some three thousand years ago the Tamu community (now Gurung) of Nepal settled in this area after crossing the Namun La Pass from Tibet. This region is also known as Tamuwan and, at one time, had a king and palace.
During this varied trek, you’ll encounter a wide range of sights; picturesque villages, terraced farmland, glacial lakes, steep-sided gorges, raging rivers and, of course, incredible mountain scenery of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges.
Our new Namun La Pass Camping Trek is part of our Himalayan Classic Trek Series. We are able to arrange this unique and seldom-offered trip in Nepal as a private departure for you and your travel companions beginning on any date during the months of late March through May and mid-September to late November for a group of 1 to 10 people
