Barely 25 miles north of Pokhara sits the most beautiful mountain range in Nepal – the Annapurnas. It was not until the mid-1950s that these majestic mountains were first explored by the outside world. Today the Annapurna Range is one of the most popular trekking destinations in the world, and with good reason – it is easily accessible from Pokhara and offers tremendous potential for scenic walks and for alpine exploration in a splendid high Himalayan setting. The mountains forming the great Annapurna Range boast no fewer than eight peaks over 7000 meters, including Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna 1 (8091 meters), Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Annapurna V. Macchapuchare (Fish Tail) is surely the most famous mountain in this range, standing only 23 feet (7 meters) below the magical 7000 meter mark.
Our new Hidden Lake Trek is seldom-traveled by Western groups in its entirety, as access to this area is barred by steep-sided valleys, high ridges and requires groups to camp instead of staying in lodges. This trip is actually a combination of two separate trekking routes (Kopra Danda and Mardi Himal), which we will connect via the trails running west to east across the foothills of the Annapurna Range. The hidden Khaire Lake is situated beneath the shapely peak of Annapurna South, at 7,219 meters / 23,684 feet (the 101st-highest mountain in the world) and first ascended in 1964. This is an area of bamboo and rhododendron forests providing an undisturbed home to a variety of wildlife.
Our first ever groups in 2019 have provided great feedback, allowing us to improve the itinerary for you in 2020 and beyond! This unique trip makes for a challenging, panoramic and rewarding hiking adventure away from the crowds, occasionally not even on an established path with the mighty Annapurna Range towering above.
